Diversity House Launches an Inspiring Six-Month Programme to Celebrate Diversity, Strengthen Communities and Promote Wellbeing Across Swale
Diversity House is delighted to announce the launch of Swale – A Celebration of Cultures: Connecting Communities for Wellbeing, an exciting six-month community programme designed to bring people together, celebrate the rich cultural diversity of Swale and strengthen community wellbeing through meaningful participation, learning and shared experiences.
Running from 1 August 2026 to 31 January 2027, the programme will engage residents from Sittingbourne, Faversham and Sheerness, creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect, learn from one another and build lasting relationships.

At a time when many communities continue to experience social isolation, health inequalities and the impact of the rising cost of living, this initiative offers a positive response by creating welcoming spaces where everyone feels valued, respected and included. Through creativity, culture and collaboration, the programme will foster stronger neighbourhoods, improve wellbeing and encourage a greater sense of belonging.
A Borough-Wide Celebration of Diversity
Throughout the six-month programme, residents will be invited to participate in a vibrant series of free activities designed to inspire learning, creativity and community spirit.
Highlights will include:
- Community cultural celebration events
- Live music and dance performances representing cultures from around the world
- Storytelling and creative writing sessions
- Children’s “Everyone is Different but Equal” Art Competition
- Intergenerational arts and crafts workshops
- International food demonstrations promoting healthy eating
- Mental health and wellbeing seminars
- Community conversations on inclusion and belonging
- Community Knowledge Fair showcasing local services and support
- Family football activities and community walks
- Volunteer development and leadership opportunities
Each activity has been carefully designed to create opportunities for residents to meet new people, celebrate different cultures and discover the many strengths that exist within Swale’s diverse communities.
Creating Lasting Impact
The programme aims to engage more than 800 residents, deliver 24 cultural and wellbeing activities, and train 30 community volunteers who will play an active role in strengthening local communities.
Beyond the events themselves, the project will establish a Swale Cultural & Inclusion Network, bringing together residents, voluntary organisations, statutory partners, businesses and community leaders to continue promoting inclusion, collaboration and community resilience long after the programme has ended.
By investing in relationships, volunteering and shared experiences, Diversity House is creating a sustainable legacy that will continue to benefit local communities for years to come.
Working in Partnership
This initiative reflects Diversity House’s commitment to working collaboratively with local organisations to improve lives and reduce inequalities. We will work alongside local authorities, schools, libraries, health services, faith organisations, businesses and voluntary groups to ensure the programme reaches those who will benefit most.
Together, we will create opportunities for people to build trust, celebrate diversity and develop stronger connections across Swale.
