Adult Sewing Skills Programme at Diversity House
Diversity House is pleased to offer a practical Adult Sewing Skills Programme for people who want to learn sewing, refresh previous skills or progress to more advanced projects. The classes will be delivered in a friendly, supportive, and creative environment, with practical guidance to help participants build their skills and confidence.
The programme is suitable for:
Complete beginners
People returning to sewing after a long break
Participants who already have basic sewing experience
People interested in developing more advanced sewing skills
Anyone interested in making, repairing, or altering clothing and other fabric items
Depending on the course level, participants will have opportunities to learn:
How to use a sewing machine safely and confidently
How to thread and operate a sewing machine
Measuring, marking and cutting fabric
Basic hand-sewing and machine-sewing techniques
Understanding different fabrics and sewing equipment
Following and adapting simple patterns
Making practical sewing projects

Course Levels
Level 1 – Introduction to Sewing
Suitable for beginners and people wishing to refresh their basic sewing skills.
Level 2 – Developing Sewing Skills
Suitable for participants who have completed Level 1 or already understand the foundations of sewing.
Level 3 – Advanced Skills and Independent Projects
Suitable for participants who are confident with the basics and want to undertake more advanced work.
Proposed Course Schedule
Each level is delivered as a six-week course, with one session per week.
- Level 1: Starting Monday, 2 November 2026
- Level 2: February–March 2027
- Level 3: May–June 2027
- Venue: Diversity House, ISP House, Church Street, Sittingbourne, Kent, ME10 3EG
- Cost: £60 for each six-week level
Equipment and Learning Environment
Diversity House has sewing machines available for participants to use during the sessions. Participants will receive practical support and guidance appropriate to their level of experience.
We will confirm separately whether participants need to bring their own fabric or any additional materials for individual projects.
Registration and Payment
Spaces are limited, and only a few places remain. An upfront payment of £60 is required to secure a place on each six-week course.
