Summer Youth Club

17th August 2018

On the third week of the youth club we educated the kids on the Raf as it the 100-year anniversary since WW1 ended. I was taken aback when all the kids told me that they knew nothing about the RAF and its history when I asked them what they knew about it. I informed them that the demand of planes during WW1 led to the formation of the RAF in 1918 as a merge of the RFC and the RNAS with women in supporting roles in the WRAF.

Next, I talked them through a few people behind the planes of RAF which included Captain Albert Ball, Sergeant William Robinson Clarke, Lady Kathleen, Florence Green, Major Lanoe George Hawker, Major Edward Mannock, Lieutenant Hardit Sing Malik, Major James McCudden and Lieutenant Indra Lal Roy.

Once I finished talking about their contributions to the war and their achievements, I showed them a historical timeline of the air service. Finally, we learnt some RAF definitions.

After expanding our knowledge, we took a break to have some snacks. That followed with a game of snakes and ladders testing the kid’s knowledge on their morning lesson and finished the game off with some pop quiz questions.

At the end of the session the youth practised their dance routine and gave their comments about their day.
