In our fast-paced world, we often treat our electronic devices better than we treat ourselves. When your phone hits that dreaded 1% battery mark, you do not keep pushing it to work; you immediately look for a power source. You plug it in, give it a moment, and wait for that lightning bolt symbol to appear.
At Diversity House, we believe people deserve that same grace. That is why we are thrilled to introduce Diversity House Recharge Garden.
The Recharge Garden is not just an outdoor space; it is a dedicated “reset button” for the mind. Featuring comfortable benches, vibrant plants, and the refreshing open air, it is a sanctuary designed for:
- Staff and Volunteers to take a momentary breather from their vital work.
- Service Users and Visitors to find a pocket of peace during their visit.

Whether you have three minutes or fifteen, this garden is a place to step away from the screen or the desk, breathe in the fresh air, and reset your mindset.
Every workplace needs a “Green Escape”. Working in the charity sector is incredibly rewarding, but it is also emotionally demanding. To support others effectively, we must first ensure our own mental well-being is prioritised. The impact of a green space in a workplace goes beyond just “looking nice.” Scientific research often points to the benefits of “biophilia”, our innate tendency to seek connections with nature.
The Recharge Garden helps by:
- Reducing Cortisol: Even short exposures to green environments can lower stress hormones.
- Boosting Cognitive Function: A quick “recharge” helps clear brain fog, making us more focused when we return to our tasks.
- Encouraging Mindfulness: The sensory experience of a garden, the scent of plants, the feel of the breeze, grounds us in the present moment.
“To help others, our own cups must be full. The Recharge Garden is where we go to fill them.”
A Call to Action for Every Workspace
We hope the Diversity House Recharge Garden serves as an inspiration to other organisations. Creating a “green environment” should not be seen as a luxury; it is a vital tool for mental health and workplace productivity.
When it is sunny, the garden glows. When it is quiet, it heals. We invite all our staff, volunteers, and visitors to take a moment today to step outside, sit on the bench, and plug back into nature.
Come back fresh. Come back ready. Come back recharged.
