Project Background
Diversity House Youth Project was initiated in Summer 2010. It was
initially funded by Kent County Council’s ‘Positive Activities for Young
People’ and is now fully affiliated to Kent Youth Project. Originally
set up at a result of an influx of migrant communities settling in
Swale. The scheme caters for the social needs of youths and the lack of
self confidence within this group.
The Youth Project is not just for minority communities. It aims to
attract a diverse range of children from all backgrounds and cultures.
Although there are other youth projects running in the area, Diversity
House aims to keep the scheme as affordable as possible to aid families
with a lack of funds.
Diversity House believes attendees have the opportunity to learn whilst
also having fun.
The pilot programme last year produced extremely positive feed back from
the children themselves who attended the sessions. Some children even
received awards from the local MP for the area.
2011
The
scheme in 2011 will run over 13 sessions involving lots of different and
varied activities such as Music Therapy, Theatre Outing, Dance, Art,
Drama, Drumming Sessions, Local History, Puppetry, Picnic and many more
fun activities. See details below.

These are some of the quotes received from the
children from last year:
‘I have enjoyed playing with my friends, I have learnt new things and it
has been fantastic’.
‘It’s been really good and I have enjoyed doing different activities
like mask making, learning new languages etc’.
‘I have felt really happy and I like all the activities, different arts
and crafts and the things that we make. I will now celebrate friendship,
and other cultures and languages’.
‘I like doing art and crafts activities like mask making and also had
the opportunities to make new friends. I would like to come for more
sessions in the New Year’.
‘I like all sessions especially the sticking and glue and arts and craft
sessions. I have learnt to respect my fellow peers. I would love to come
again’.
