"A Celebration of Cultures- Black History Month "
"Changing Lives" event

"Changing Lives" event - held on 3rd October 2007. A workshop held in the Sittingbourne Library for childrren age 7 - 12 years old with their parents or carers. Part of the commemoration of the 200 years anniversary of the abolition of slavery and black history month.

Children and their parents or carers enjoyed the folklores from Africa and Caribbean, drumming and music from different cultures, Bhangra and Bollywoood dancing (Indian), all set in the backdrop of the African village scene (i.e. a hut with thatched roof).

The Heart of the celebration

A board depicting the heart of the celebration, that is the celebration of the abolition of slavery but it also shows that there are other forms of man inhumanity to man, example racism/discrimination, child labour/prostitution, unfair trading, domestic violence/violence against women, social inequalities, etc.
