Christine Locke wins
BME Award 2008
CHRISTINE LOCKE, Chair
of Diversity House has been recognised for her work
as a promoter of community cohesion through her
charity Diversity House based in Swale.
CHRISTINE LOCKE, BME Winner: "We provide bespoke
services such as advice, information, guidance,
advocacy on different community issues like housing
education, immigration referrals, domestic violence.
It’s really important because the world is so small
now, everybody’s talking about globalisation and
different people are coming together and if we do
not provide services like that to find people that
feel excluded – once people feel excluded and on the
edge of the community there'll be tensions. So we
try to work towards addressing social inequalities
and reducing tensions."
